"your skin is something that i stir into my tea"

misconstrued poetry

here inside wheat ovens,
beneath the schaff,
love owns, love lives,
love claims, love lands.

claimed i run away
landing i prepare to fight
owned i stuggle
this is living with love

burnt by the heat
crusted over on edges
risen and expanded
with yeast and flame

i encompass more
within this shell
holding it in
precious and soft

cast offs and discards
surround untouched
harvested only to rot
flaws and excesses discovered

would you like to bake with me?
bread could rise from beneath our hands
dough folded down
air punched out

we could make bread
to eat together
hot and fresh later
burning finger tips to taste

cut the loaf in half
hold it tight to your chest
slicing the knife inward
a piece for each of us.

. . . . .

this is what happens
when i start reading
other peoples poetry
and misread such words as
"what owns" for "wheat ovens"

and on the subject of baking
i would like a cake please
for my next birthday
like one of these
